Hello!

In Kindergarten, we focus on success in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies and social emotional.

In reading, we focus on phonemic awareness that helps students be able to manipulate the sounds in words. That leads us to phonics which helps us be able to become successful readers and writers. In writing, we focus on forming letters correctly so that we can create simple sentences with sight words and words we can sound out. We accompany these sentences with detailed pictures.

We start with number identification and forming our numbers in math. That moves us into manipulating numbers for addition and subtraction. We also focus on shapes, classifying and sorting objects, 2D and 3D shapes, and measuring length, height and weight.

In science and social studies, we discuss family and traditions, similarities and differences of the past and present, animals, trees and weather.

For social emotional, our students learn how to read emotions of themselves and of others. They learn how to control their impulses and manage their time. They learn how to advocate for themselves and problem solve, including in the area of bullying. Our school follows the acronym of PRIDE, which stands for perseverance, respect, involvement, doing what’s right, and effort. Our students are successful with these character traits.
