Celebrating student achievements is a priority at Fort Riley Elementary. That’s why principal, Becky Coy, and assistant principal Melisa Burgess, began monthly “Pod” celebrations. The Pod celebrations occur once a month in each grade level and begin with the “Principal Birthday Announcements”, where students who had a birthday that month receive a shout out and a special treat from the principal. Next, each teacher hands out awards to students who have exemplified “Buffalo Pride” characteristics: P- Perseverance, R- Respect, I- Involvement, E- Effort. One student is also selected for the “Best Behavior in the Cafe” award.
“Mrs. Coy and I decided to start Pod Celebrations because we realized that we gave academic awards, but wanted a way to recognize positive character traits as well.” -Melisa Burgess, Assistant Principal at Fort Riley Elementary
This week was the 1st Grade Pod Celebration and included Mr. Hill’s, Mrs. Wilson’s, Mrs. Mayfield’s classes. Congratulations Buffalo!
